Antarctica is more than just ice. It is a continent of extremes: freezing cold, endless expanses – and yet full of life. Here, penguins, seals and seabirds brave the harshest conditions on earth. As a human being in this landscape, you are above all one thing: a silent observer.
This remote world fascinates me not only because of its unique wildlife, but also because of the deep silence, the wide horizons and the feeling that you are experiencing something completely original here. Especially in times of climate change, it becomes clear how fragile and at the same time powerful this icy world is.
This article is my personal view of the beauty and vulnerability of Antarctica – a tribute to a place that few ever get to see, but which concerns us all.
